New Fire Chief

Chief Richard Price
Tom Bongi, President of the
San Ramon Valley Fire District Board announced today, the
appointment of Richard Price as the new Fire Chief for the San
Ramon Valley Fire Protection District. Price is currently the
District’s Operations Chief and will replace Fire Chief Craig
Bowen. Bowen is retiring after 6 years as Fire Chief and over 30
years in the fire service. The transition will occur later this
year.
Prior to joining the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District
in 2006, Price served San Mateo County, as a Battalion Chief,
for eighteen years. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public
Administration from California State University at Hayward and
is a recent graduate of Harvard University’s, Kennedy School of
Government Senior Executives in State and Local Government
Program. Price is a certified Chief Fire Officer (CFO) and is
currently attending the Executive Fire Officer Program at the
National Fire Academy in Maryland.
Price is President of the Contra Costa County Fire Chiefs
Association and is an Incident Commander for the East Bay
Incident Management Team. He is a Board Member for Leadership
San Ramon Valley and a Lifetime Member of the One Hundred Club
of Contra Costa County.
With respect to the appointment, Fire Chief Bowen said, “Chief
Price has done an outstanding job leading our Operations
Division and has been a perfect fit with our organization. He
has broad support from the entire agency and is exceptionally
well qualified to lead the Fire District.”
San Ramon Valley Firefighters Association President John Keel
commented, “we have greatly appreciated the commitment Chief
Price has made to this District and to our personnel. We are in
full support of his appointment and sincerely look forward to
working with him to provide the highest level of service
possible.”
When asked about his appointment, Price said, “The San Ramon
Valley Fire Protection District is one of the premier fire
organizations in the country. I am very proud to serve as the
Fire Chief in my home town and to be at the helm of an agency
that provides so much public value.”
Chief Price and wife Lisa have lived in Danville for eighteen
years and have a five year old daughter attending Tassajara
Hills Elementary School.
The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District service area
encompasses approximately 155 square miles, covering the
communities of Alamo, Blackhawk, the Town of Danville, Diablo,
the City of San Ramon, the southern boundary of Morgan Territory
and the Tassajara Valley, all located in Contra Costa County.
The District has 170 full-time employees and 43 volunteers.
